A Good Win. A blazing hot evening in Sydenham proved to be too much for the Bexley boys as heaters were abandoned for fear of sunburn. One assumes the opposing team must have too many free sunbed minutes racked up as they decided not to take advantage of the free tanning facilities at Springfield Road. First up was Dan W Vs. Barny Stubble. Do you know he played a fair bit of badminton in his day? Lovely chap. After both players edged their way to 2-2, Dan had his man in a Hulk Hogan style strangle-hold and closed out the game. Good start for Team. Meanwhile Dale was making light work of Dean on court 2, racing away to a 2-0 lead. Or so he though...After saving match ball in the third, Dean quickly chalked up 3 games. A 3-2 loss - match all square. Up steps Sydenham's own Dan Crowley. At 2-0 down against Dulwich frequenting Fosker the outlook was bleak. The SLTC(S)C Faithful had that sinking feeling and we're pinning all hopes on the last two games.... Court 1 was enjoying some textbook Squash. Tats coolly ran a 2-0 lead against Tobyn before opening the door in the third. What seemed like a brief lapse didn't last long as normal service resumed, Tats slammed it shut. 3-1 win. The sound of squash balls echoed around court 2 and Shade was still in the stands. Surely someone was just cooling after presumably forgetting their aftersun...? Nope, it's Dan C somehow back at 2-2 and ahead in the fifth. After squaring up, it was blow for blow, both players having tie-break match points - think Apollo Creed Vs Rocky Balboa in a sudden death punch out, Balboa ducking and literally diving for Team's cause. Creed cracked, Rocky won! Shouts of "I WAS THERE" after what can only be described as an attempted rugby tackle in the front corner - NO LET. Sydenham's son closed out the game and sealed the home win. Epic stuff. Shade, showings signs of returning fitness and a youthful glow, increased the points haul. Although ankle strapped, deft touches and clinical attacking boasts were just too much for Rob. After taking a quick breather in the 3rd, a 3-1 result capped of the night for SLTC(S)C. On a night when a few matches could have gone either way, they went the Sydenham way. Good banter was had and plenty of beers were downed, probably because of the blazing heat! All in all, a good night and a good win. Man of the match, Sydenham's own Dan Crowley (even after minus points for insufficient fish and chips supply).
