Racketball 2019 tournament finals: contestants, timing and rules

Here is the list of contestants eligible for the knock out stage of the 2019 Tournament and their seedings.

This notice also gives (again) the timing, rules and order and play.

There are three “wild cards” in the list of eligible players because two of the contestants who were in the top eight in the round robin, Paul Lindsay and Paul Brewster, will not be able to play for the next few weeks for injury/medical reasons and Dan Crowley is unavailable because of another engagement. (I was told of Paul’s injury only last night and have not yet been able to contact him to confirm it.)

The contestants are Bradley Sawyer (1); Ian Moody (2); John Rowe (3); Mark Waddell (4); Christopher Hayes (5); Alastair Putt (6); Pete Edwards (7); Simon Taylor (8). PLEASE WOULD ALL THESE PLAYERS CONFIRM TO ME THEIR AVAILABILITY FOR THE FINALS NEXT SUNDAY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND IN ANY CASE BY TUESDAY BY E MAIL OR BY TEXT TO MY MOBILE (07745818366).
The finals begin at 13.30 next Sunday (31 March).

I should be grateful if everyone would turn up then so that the players in the second set of quarter finals will be able to mark the first set of matches. I also hope that the players who are knocked out in the quarter finals will stay to see the rest of the tournament and to mark the semi finals and finals.

N.B. Sunday 31 May is the first day of summer time and so the start time in B.S.T.

The order of play is :-
Quarter finals, match 1, on court one seed 1 versus seed 8; match 2 on court two, seed 2 versus seed 7. Match 3 on Court one, seed 3 versus seed 6; Match 4 on court two, seed 4 versus seed 5. Semi finals, on court one winners of matches 1 and 3; on court two winners of matches 2 and 4. Grand final on court one between semi finals winners. “Bronze” final on court two between semi final losers.

Scoring will be the same as in 2017, the last time there was a single tournament with a three round knock out stage. That is to say the quarter and semi finals will be played “best of two” and the finals “best of three”. If “best of two” matches end at one game all, the winner is the player with the highest aggregate points. If the points are even, the normal tie break rule applies i.e. play continues until one player has scored a further three points.

So far as possible, play should be continuous, except that there will be a five minute break between quarter and semi final matches. Hopefully in the “best of two” matches players should not need a break between games but, in accordance with what I understand to be the general rules of squash, a player may, if need be, ask for a break not exceeding 90 seconds.
